Camms Endowed Nursery, Primary and Junior School is where we began. 39 years ago.  F.O.C.S.A.  Friends of Camm’s School Association PTA and our children’s friendship and future.  Staff and parents coming together to build a strong and friendly school.  And these friendships have travelled decades.  Lynne’s dedication and encouraged by Betty Moore (Headmistress) became a strong member on the Board of Governors.  Giving her time and energy for Camms and education of the community.
The Smalley’s, Lowe’s, Piley’s, Hawkins’s, Mills, Hodgson’s and us the Freestons set about fund raising with Summer and Christmas fetes along with many other willing parent volunteers.
A memorable fancy dress Christmas pub crawl up through Eckington Village was a great hit by all participating and public who donated.
Our family group organised walks into Derbyshire and picnic BBQ’s in Clumber Park with volleyball, rounders and bike rides are still looked back on with warmth and nostalgia.  Best of times had by all.
There was always a warm welcome at the Smalley House.  Mike with a glass and Lynne with her fabulous culinary skills.  The banquets and dinners she planned, prepared and served were a sight to taste and experience.

Lynne loved her holidays with family and traveling with Mike, having lots of experiences and tales to tell.  Langdale in the Lake District was Lynne’s favourite place.  One New Year we were  invited to stay with them I remember Lynne packing flasks of coffee and sandwiches for a picnic after a walk up Scarfell Pike.  Have you ever seen Scarfell Pike?  We had not and had no idea.  Trusting Mike and Lynne’s experience we went off out into the cold but clear day.  Once we hit the snow line it became a bit hair raising but soldered on.  On the last part of the accent we caught up with 3 young men one of whom was having difficulty of going further and was clinging to the ground.  Mel and I were sent on up with 2 of the young men and Lynne and Mike gradually talked the 3rd up to the top.  Turned out they were all pilots and were used to heights but not whilst still on the ground.  The view from the top was breath taking.

Mel and I enjoyed 3 more visits to Langdale with Lynne and the family these last few years.  You could always find her in the lounge with her newspaper, glass of wine doing the crossword and chatting to staff and other members.  It was her peaceful place where she was happiest.

Loosing Mike before his and their time was a loss Lynne had great difficulty coming to terms with.  They were a team, soul mates.  The strength of the Smalley family unit rallied around their mum and Lynne's strength of character battled through.  I believe that you take people as they are or not at all and I am happy to have had Madeline Smalley as a friend of 39 years.  The memories will last a lifetime.  Thank you Lynne. x
