Madeline Smalley passed away peacefully on 1st June 2020. We imagine she is now slow dancing in a warm embrace with Dad somewhere.
In a rich life of 77 years she had a million wonderful moments and formed hundreds of special friendships - many of which span decades. Her relationship with each and every one of us is entirely unique.
With the coronavirus pandemic imposing social distancing rules on us, we won't have the opportunity to remember her together in person, as there is a limit on the number of mourners at a funeral. So, we were keen to have this space so that we could share our remembrance of her together - virtually. Please do share with anyone who you think would be interested or who would like to contribute.
Please share some of your photos and memories of Mum with all of us here, so that even though we can't be together physically, we can still celebrate her life together. You can do that by clicking on the "Contribute" link on the left-hand side of this page or through “Stories” top right on the app.
We appreciate that, traditionally, the sending of flowers is the standard. However, we would like to do something a bit different. As you know, she loved gardening. We recently came across a piece of work that she had written about roses whilst on her horticulture course. We thought it would be really wonderful if - instead of sending flowers - you could choose a rose for yourself to put in your garden or home to help you remember Mum - not just today - but into the future. Mum's essay is in the 'Journal' section to the left and then click on "Madeline Smalley - Roses". Please do read it and look at the pictures and take inspiration from it.
If you feel the need to donate to charity as well or instead, please do. Mum donated to many, including Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Fire Fighters Charity and Sheffield Hospitals.
Although we will miss her terribly, the impact she had on our lives will never change and her memory lives on through us and our children.
Thank you,
Sarah, Toya, Luke & Charlotte
